It has been a painful last two weeks. It all started when Tim Connolly (the man made of glass) became injured for the second time this season. This player is notorious for not being able to play a full NHL season, due to the fact that he’s so soft. While the Leafs could get over losing Tim, it would appear that his “Glass Man” syndrome has evolved to the next stage; it has become contagious.  James “Optimus Reim” Reimer has been injured, and the Maple Leafs have had to play with two AHL goaltenders; Ben Scrivens and Jonas “fucking” Gustavsson. Also, in the last game against the Phoenix Coyotes, both Mikhail Grabovski and Clarke MacArthur had to leave in the second period and are being sent for MRIs today to determine the extent of the injuries. With Colby Armstrong being out this means that half of the Leafs first two lines and their starting goaltender are out. The Leafs finally had the players that they needed to win the Cup this year, and now they are using a team consisting of far too many AHL players.

The biggest story that is coming out of the Toronto Maple Leafs camp is the story regarding goaltending. The goaltending issue developed during this play on October 22nd in a game against the Montreal Canadiens.

As you can see here, the smurf Brian Gionta is to blame in this play. Stupid Montreal Canadiens fans argue that “He didn’t try to hit Reimer in the head” (take a look at the dropping of the shoulder you stupid Quebecios) or that “he’s so small, you can’t suspend him”. You know, I get angry at Gionta when I hear this, but then I look at this picure, and it makes me feel better:

Gimme Your Lunch Money

Brian Buke is keeping the true nature of Reimer’s injury a secret from the media, and the fans. He knows, in his infinite wisdom, that we can’t handle the truth. He says it’s “an upper body injury” when asked if it’s a concussion. What a smart and poignant man, protecting us by not telling us anything. Not only is he helping by sheltering us, but recently there have been rumours circulating that the Leafs have contacted veteran goaltender Marty Turco to come and replace the void that Reimer has left. Marty Turco has confirmed that the Leafs have talked to him. Brian Burke however, in his web of infinite wisdom, has denied that they are interested. And why shouldn’t he; nobody knows better than he does.

To conclude, another week has past, and still we have Phil Kessel as the league leader in points and goals. As a fun little comparison to another “great” player, Alexander Ovechkin is sitting 44th in points and 32nd in goals. Does anyone else remember the picture that Ovie took of Kessel being picked last at the All-Star game last year, while laughing hysterically? Hey, Ovie, who’s laughing now?
