Hair is something that most females are so attached to.  We seem to attach our ideas of how attractive we are to how long and shiny our hair is.  Every Disney princess has long hair.  We, as women, grow up with the assumption that long hair is pretty.  And men seem to be wired the same way.  Long hair represents femininity, and from what I’ve heard, most men prefer long hair on females.

I had long (very long) hair for a long time.  For all of my preteens/teens I was the girl with the long red hair. In first year, I cut off my hair to my chin and donated a 16 inch braid to Pantene’s version of Locks of Love.  After that first cut, I can’t describe it as anything else, I got addicted to changing the length of my hair, I kept cutting it shorter and shorter from the bob that I first cut, until in July it was completely shaved on the sides with a Rihanna-like mohawk.

Anyways, I heard a lot of negative feedback when I first cut my hair, and more came the shorter my hair got.  Mostly from males.  Most females loved my hair, especially when it was at its shortest, but assured me they could never ever cut their hair that short.

Why is it that men lack attraction to women with short hair (with the exception of people like Halle Berry and Amber Rose and Natalie Portman)?  And why is it that as women we are taught that hair is what makes us beautiful and holds so much of our femininity?

I loved my short hair, I loved shaving the sides of my head, I love my hair now, but when it comes down to it, hair is just hair.

Guys, girls, what do you prefer? Short or long?
