I was checking out some recent posts by the fam, and the apparent smokeshow only party they were having without me (bastardos!) and realized I actually hadn’t posted in a while. So in the spirit of posting about the random crap I’ve been looking at, I want to explore the world of some Rugged Timpieces. Lemme set this up-

The great thing about the generic stainless steel/fashionable timepiece is the fact that  1. it keeps time 2. looks awesome when your out and about 3. makes a statement about who you are, and how much effort you put into your appearance. Often, its the comments from your prospective/current employer or friends/peers that you can take to heart about that nice watch you just had to splurge on. I know people who have gone as crazy as 5k a watch (see below, yes thats my pic, yes those are real diamonds in the face and strap, and no they are not mine), to a more manageable 500$ a watch. But anytime we see that watch we just have to have, we need it to complete the wardrobe.

My one knock with these pieces is the fact that, yes they look amazing, but I cant wear (no would I wear) these if I was to  up and decide to go boarding or camping. I dont want to be that douche wearing a 5000$ watch, chopping wood in the bush. So I decided to talk about some rugged pieces that would still have us looking dapper, but are appropriate for the activity.

1. Victorinox Swiss Army -- Night Vision II

The night vision on the left features a must have rubber strap. You don’t want to worry about scratching your stainless steel, plus the rubber dries quickly making them ideal for the outdoors/watersport. The face is about 41 mm, water resistant to 5 bar (50 m), and has 3 LED functions (blue LED illuminated face, red LED for multifunction, and white LED flashlight).
2. Nite Watch MX10 300T
The MX10 takes on a “covert, tactical theme”. Used by serious professionals in the business that need a rugged watch (worn by SAS), or those who are in sporting environments, or who have active careers. It has a 39 mm face, is water resistant 10 bar (100 m), and features GTLS.“GTLS (Gaseous Tritium Light Source). This highly specialised technology is also used in advanced military hardware and pioneering safety equipment where a guaranteed light source is needed for safe operations in all hazardous environments and conditions.

Electrons emitted from the tritium gas excite the phosphorous coated lining of the GTLS to produce a continuous cold light source that will typically last between 10 and 20 years.” These electrons are found in the grey numerical markers, that turn blue in the dark, and the watch hands which turn orange in the dark.

3. G-Shock G7900A-4XL Rescue Red

This rugged piece screams something out of the firehall. It has a 50 mm watch face, is water resistant 20 bar (200 m), and is shock resistant. It has a calendar that is present until the year 2099 and 4 alarm pre sets as well as a snooze timer. Have you seen the hammer, durability test? These things are built to last.
